Carpet Care Tips
At Request, we care about you, our customers. In order to help you keep your carpet looking great, here's a few tips to help you out.
- Spots and Spills
- Make a thin, runny batch of cornstarch and water (looks like you're getting ready to make gravy).
-
Apply it to the spot or spill and let it dry. Brush it loose and then vacuum.
-
The cornstarch is absorbent and it will absorb the residue and spots so the spots do not return.
-
Most spots are residue such as fat, oil and syrup. They attract dust and become a spot. The cornstarch takes out that residue.
-
This works on both upholstery and carpets!
- Carpet Dents
You know the dents you get in your carpet from moving your furniture around? You know where the legs were? Drop an ice cube in the dent and it will come out on its own.
- Dust stuck at the baseboards
Take an old hair brush and brush your carpet along the baseboards to get the trapped dust and residue away from the areas that cannot be vacuumed.
- Pet Problems
For those pets who seem to like urinating on your carpet and furniture, here's a method that should help discourage them.
- Take a rag and saturate it with white vinegar.
-
Work vigorously on a urine spot with the saturated rag.
-
After the two odors are combined on the rag, take your pet and give them a towel bath with that rag.
- They will spend the next two hours licking that off their fur.
-
Take a squirt bottle, place a light mist of vinegar around any potential targets and your pet will not want to lick that off of themselves too many times.
- A dog will take 2 or 3 applications, while a cat will take 4 or 5 applications.
